Blockchain-enabled Decentralized Cloud/Edge Computing

Cloud/Edge computing is powering many of today’s internet-based applications and services. Nevertheless, how data is shared and stored, how people collaborate, and how to guarantee security are important challenges for cloud/edge computing. Meanwhile, the traditional centralized cloud/edge architecture cannot meet the requirements of digital business infrastructure. Blockchain is considered an adaptable alternative for inaugurating a trustful distributed platform with characteristics such as interoperation, tamper-resistance, decentralization, and so on. Consequently, the natural distributed structure is suitable for cloud/edge computing, which can be used to establish decentralized cloud/edge computing. Although progress made in blockchain-based decentralized cloud/edge computing over the past few years, there is still a plethora of challenges to be addressed, including poor scalability, degree of decentralization, and the impact of integration on the system performance. Therefore, exploring the system compatibility, system architecture, integrated system interface, etc. is the key to solving these challenges, and then promotes the cornerstone of the blockchain-cloud combination development. This special issue invites academic and industry researchers to work on blockchain-based cloud/edge computing, including technologies, theories, services, architectures, and protocols. This special issue will provide researchers with a platform to showcase the latest cutting-edge research and shed light on future directions in this exciting field. We welcome original research and review articles.
